The all-important Dubai Peace and Sport Forum is set to take place in the UAE between April 23rd and 24th and organisers are trying to raise awareness of the event. It will provide a unique opportunity for stakeholders from across the Middle East to utilise the mass appeal of sport to build bridges between different communities. The gathering is also aimed at assessing how sports can be made more accessible to young people throughout the region.Members of the Dubai Sports Council have been staging a number of competitions and events in recent weeks in order to raise the profile of the occasion.According to AMEinfo, the council worked alongside the UAE Table Tennis Federation to hold a tournament at the Mirdif City Center on Friday (March 29th). Players from the UAE were joined by competitors from Pakistan, India, Oman, Tunisia, Egypt and Singapore in what turned out to be a hugely successful event. In addition to this, organisers of the Dubai Peace and Sport Forum have planned a Communities Football Tournament, which is due to take place this week (April 3rd) and will feature eight teams. A number of other promotional events will be taking place between now and the start of the gathering.Speaking to the same news provider last month, vice president of the Forum Organising Committee Khaled Ali Bin Zayed explained why these contests were being held."We made sure that all the activities and events were diverse and included games in various individual and team disciplines as well as competitions in art, poetry and other festivals and workshops involving sports and social organisations with the goal to widen the chances of participation to the Forum to as much of the society as possible," he was quoted as saying. The Dubai Sports Council successfully boosted its profile towards the end of 2012 when football icon Diego Maradona accepted an ambassadorial role with the group. He has since taken part in a number of promotional events and has even played for the council's football team.
