World's biggest book on display in Dubai
The world's biggest book is currently on display in Dubai and will be available until November 30th.
Entitled 'This Mohammed', the book has five distinct entries in the Guinness Book of World Records. In addition to being the biggest, it is also the tallest, widest, heaviest and most expensive book in the world.
The 1,500 kilogram, 429-page book is eight meters wide and five meters long, costing a total of AED 11 million (£1.8 million) to make. Dubai Municipality is the first government to host the exhibit.
Dubai Municipality's assistant director general Abdullah Raffia said: 'The book team was formed to enhance platform for book lovers in the municipality to share their thoughts and reading experiences. Apart from this the team is keen on promoting the culture of reading among the employees.'
This latest exhibition is a prime example of Dubai's ability to surprise both locals and tourists alike, offering unique attractions such as this, proving there is always something going on in the city.
It is also far from the first time the emirate has played host to some unique world record holders. Earlier this month it held its inaugural Dubai World Hospitality Championships and, in addition to various cooking competitions, broke the world record for the largest achaar pickle. The city's entry, which broke Thailand's 2007 attempt, comprised of 1,500 kilograms of vegetables and 1,500 kilograms of spice, salt and vinegar. In total, the three-tonne meal required 91 men to prepare.
The championships also saw the sheikdom set a record of its own with the largest plate of chicken aseeda, an Emirati dish, made from 2,132 chickens and a total weight of 3,500 kilograms. Additionally, it set a new target for the largest mosaic made of chocolate truffles, using 382,000 pieces of confectionery to create a 900 kilogram entry.
This Mohammed is on display daily, starting 09:00 until 20:00 local time except on Fridays, when it will be open from 15:00 to 21:00 local time.
