Sven Goran Eriksson set for Dubai move

One of the most successful coaches in the history of European football has agreed to become the technical director at Dubai-based club Al Nasr.Sven Goran Eriksson will offer assistance to current coach Walter Zenga and is expected to be unveiled at a news conference today (January 21st).The 64-year-old had been lined up to become the new manager of German side 1860 Munich, but he appears to have performed a last-minute u-turn.Speaking to the National last week, vice president of Al Nasr Sports Club and Football Company Ahmed Khouri confirmed the UAE Pro-League outfit had approached the experienced Swede."Both the club and Eriksson have talked seriously about bringing him as a consultant at the club," he was quoted as saying.Zenga and Eriksson have worked together before, albeit on very different terms.The talented ex-player was the goalkeeper at Italian side Sampdoria when Eriksson was the coach in the mid-1990s.Eriksson has a glittering CV and has won trophies in a number of countries.Having tasted success in Portugal with Benfica, he went on to lead Lazio to the Serie A title in 2000 and also won the last ever Uefa Cup Winners' Cup in 1999.Eriksson has also managed at international level, taking England to the 2002 and 2006 World Cups, as well as the 2004 European Championships.The Swede has managed the Mexican and Ivory Coast national sides too.This is yet another example of the UAE Pro-League's ability to attract some of the leading names in football.Argentinean legend Diego Maradona recently spent some time with Al Wasl and he has consistently sung the praises of Dubai as a destination.Talented Portuguese winger Ricardo Quaresma - formerly of Barcelona, Chelsea and Inter Milan among others - has also joined the league this month after being released by Turkish side Besiktas.With wonderful beaches, magnificent shops and a multitude of stunning properties to choose from, it is hardly surprising that footballers and managers see Dubai as an attractive proposition.
