Representatives of the Building Department of Dubai Municipality continue to raise awareness about the importance of green construction.Dubai is one of the fastest-growing cities on the planet, with all manner of innovative structures springing up across the region, so it is vital that developers take their environmental responsibilities seriously.Leaders of the emirate are keen to increase the number of people receiving sustainable construction training and have launched a campaign called Be Educated on Green Buildings in order to achieve this, AMEinfo reports.Acting director of the Buildings Department Yusuf Abdullah said the scheme would consist of a number of courses, seminars, exhibitions and advertisements. It is being predominantly targeted at consultants, contractors and manufacturers.A number of programmes have been held in the city already this year, including the My Green Environment seminar and exhibition, which took place in January. This was aimed at teaching members of the public how to build their own home in a sustainable way.The Middle East Electricity 2013 event went ahead in February and attendees were able to see what measures the government has already put in place to promote eco-friendly construction.A number of green building laws will take effect in 2014 and companies will be forced to show that they have taken every reasonable action to ensure their projects are not harmful to the environment. While such regulations do exist today, they are not yet mandatory for private structures.Dubai obviously has more than its fair share of stunning hotels and it seems the owners of these buildings are becoming increasingly eco-conscious.Indeed, the popular Jumeirah Emirates Towers has been re-certified by the Green Globe - an organisation that monitors sustainability in global travel and tourism businesses.The hotel managed to boost its score to 90 per cent after introducing a plethora of innovative methods to reduce its carbon footprint.It has installed better air conditioning controls and has reassessed its lighting requirements.
