Dubai Metro set to stage fashion show
Dubai is renowned for turning the seemingly impossible into reality and this will be the case when a unique fashion show gets under way this week.These events are usually held in specially designed buildings or in plush department stores, but Dubai Fashion is a bit different.Models will take to the catwalk aboard a moving Dubai Metro train tomorrow (January 23rd) in what is sure to be a memorable occasion. After all, the last thing the average commuter expects to see as they travel to work is a stunning young man or woman showcasing the very latest garments from some of the world's finest designers.The glamorous show is part of the 18th Dubai Shopping Festival, which will bring thousands of people to the city in January.Speaking to Gulf News, events director at Dubai Events and Promotions Establishment Suhaila Ghubash explained the thinking behind the one-of-a-kind fashion extravaganza."The Dubai Metro is a landmark of Dubai, and it is very trendy and fashionable. So we just want to showcase fashion in a different format," she remarked.Organisers confirmed the Express Fashion event will take place in one of the five-carriage trains and the service will leave the Burj Khalifa before moving non-stop to Nakheel station.Ramadan Abdullah Mohammad of the Director of Operations Department told the news provider the special train will not affect any of the other services running throughout the city.The Metro network has taken on even greater importance as the emirate has expanded over the years.With more people moving to Dubai, it is vital the city has a public transport network that runs as smoothly as possible.The Metro infrastructure is set to undergo major expansion work in order to accommodate an ever-increasing number of passengers, with the Red and Green lines expected to be extended.According to the Khaleej Times, transport officials have unveiled plans to complete the regeneration in three stages - in 2020, 2025 and 2030.
