Dubai Mall, the world’s top tourist attraction, to undergo mega expansion
Dubai Mall will undergo an ambitious AED1.5 billion (US$410 million) expansion in a bid to consolidate its reputation as the world’s most popular tourist destination.
According to developer Emaar Properties, the “substantial renovation” of the world’s largest shopping mall will see the introduction of 240 new luxury retail stores and dining options, “further elevating the mall's already unparalleled shopping and entertainment offerings”.
In 2023, Dubai Mall welcomed a record-breaking 105 million visitors, marking a 19% increase from the previous year and solidifying its status as the most-visited destination globally. The upcoming expansion aims to build on this momentum, enhancing the mall's global appeal.
"The new Dubai Mall expansion is a great addition to one of the most-visited sites in the world," said Mohamed Alabbar, founder and managing director of Emaar Properties. "This expansion reflects Dubai’s ambitious vision to remain at the forefront of global innovation and culture, further solidifying our city’s position as a top global destination."
According to Emaar, the expansion is designed to offer a more extensive range of high-end fashion, lifestyle, and dining experiences, ensuring Dubai Mall “continues to lead in retail and leisure innovation”.
Located in the heart of Downtown Dubai, Dubai Mall spans more than 1.1 million square metres and offers an unparalleled blend of retail, dining, and entertainment experiences. Opened in 2008, the mall houses more than 1,200 retail outlets, including flagship stores of global luxury brands and popular high-street retailers.
In addition, Dubai Mall features a range of world-class attractions, including the Dubai Aquarium & Underwater Zoo, the Olympic-sized Dubai Ice Rink, and the immersive VR Park. The mall also boasts a 22-screen Reel Cinemas megaplex and KidZania, an interactive children's edutainment centre.
