David Haye to open gym in Dubai

Professional boxer David Haye is preparing to open a gym in Dubai.

According to Gulf News, the Hayemaker gym will open to the public from January next year. It is said to feature state-of-the-art facilities and will be set in Downtown Dubai.

The business will include a hypoxic chamber - one of the world's biggest and advanced natural performance enhancers which simulate the conditions of training at 22,000 ft. Equipment from ARTIS will allow gym users to keep track of performance and training wherever they are, thanks to cloud computing.

Mr Haye's associate Laura Adams said: 'He is my friend from my days in England and even came down to sign about a hundred of my brochures but he is actually going to open a gym here in Dubai soon and that’s why he is here.'

Before flying back to London, the sportsman said 'Great weather. Enjoying myself and look forward to coming back here soon.'

The gym will launch alongside Bench at Hayemaker - a food and beverage service offering organic food and nutritional supplements to help fitness enthusiasts.

Dubai is renowned for hosting sporting events, such as cycling and swimming, but the introduction of Hayemaker into the emirate promotes the growing variety contact sports. 

This will not be the first celebrity-owned gym for the city either, as it already hosts the Glory MMA and Fitness Gym - owned by former British Ultimate Warrior Challenge middleweight champion Tam Khan. Earlier this month, The National reported Dubai was set to become the regional centre for Mixed Martial Arts (MMA).

On the subject of MMA, Mr Khan said: 'It’s becoming very popular and I feel in three years will be the most popular sport in the UAE.'

Mr Khan also put some of the success down to the Dubai Sports Council as the body is happy to work with local sporting organisations to promote MMA in the emirate.
