Amir Khan 'excited' about potential Dubai bout

British boxer Amir Khan is 'excited' about potentially appearing in Dubai later this year, according to his father.

It was reported earlier this week (June 3rd) that promoters are trying to line up a fight between Khan and American Devon Alexander in the UAE this December.

Now, the 26-year-old's father Shah has confirmed that competing in the Middle East is something his son would relish.

He told Gulf News that Golden Boy - one of the biggest fight promoters in the world - will visit Dubai to weigh up possible venues, but there are a number of factors to consider before the bout can go ahead.

Mr Khan suggested the fight has to 'stack up financially' and the time difference between the UAE and US also needs to be taken into account.

Promoters must always cater for US TV audiences and this can be tricky when matches take place in eastern countries.

Nevertheless, Mr Khan said his son has a real affection for Dubai.

'Influential parties and promoters have expressed the desire to put on the fight in the UAE and Amir is excited at the prospect of his first fight in Dubai later this year,' he was quoted as saying.

'He's been there many times on holiday and absolutely loves the UAE, but this time it would be serious business and Amir wants to prove he's still the champion.'

Khan first came to the public's attention when he competed for Great Britain in the 2004 Olympic Games. The Bolton fighter showed incredible maturity for such a youngster and emerged from the Athens Games with a well deserved silver medal.

Since turning professional, Khan has recorded 28 wins and three losses. His latest defeat came against tough American Danny Garcia in Las Vegas last year.

This was viewed by boxing experts as a damaging setback and questions were raised about Khan's chin, but he has since made a triumphant return to the ring against Carlos Molina and Julio Diaz. He will be hoping to prove himself yet again if and when he steps into the ring against Alexander.
