Dubai has 'one of World's best skylines'

Dubai's skyline - which is filled with architectural wonders - is one of the world's best, according to a new survey.

The report from German construction data provider Emporis, notes that the emirate comes ahead of the world-famous skylines in Chicago and Shanghai.

Ranking sixth overall, Dubai came in ahead of Chicago, Shanghai, São Paulo and Bangkok.

Emporis' rankings are based on a system that assigns points to the number of high-rise buildings a city has, which are then totted up to provide a final score.

"This calculation does not include TV towers, masts, bridges, or other structures. About the formula: Each building is assigned points based on its floor count. The point total for each city is calculated automatically and displayed," the report notes.

Dubai was able to place within the top ten despite the fact that it is significantly smaller than the other cities listed and has fewer buildings than any other region in the top ten. For example, Seoul has 3,023 high-rise constructs compared to Dubai's 686.

Dubai's buildings are famous across the globe, including the world's tallest building the Burj Khalifa, the 101 floor Princess Tower and the twisted Cayan Tower.

The emirate and its skyline is incredibly popular among tourists, with 13.2 million visiting the region in 2014, marking an 8.2 per cent increase on 2013's figures. In 2013, Dubai set itself a target of attracting 20 million visitors a year by 2020 - a goal that becomes more achievable with each passing year.
