Green Globe re-certifies Jumeirah Emirates Towers

Owners of one of Dubai's most luxurious hotels are celebrating after the complex was praised for its attitude towards the environment.Green Globe - an international organisation that monitors sustainability in travel and tourism businesses -  has announced the re-certification of Jumeirah Emirates Towers.With climate change becoming an increasingly pressing issue, it is important that companies do all they can to reduce their carbon footprint and it seems this particular hotel has been going the extra mile to become more eco-friendly.General manager of the facility Grant Ruddiman said he was "extremely proud" to see Jumeirah Emirates Towers increase its score to 90 per cent and he hailed the huge effort of the hotel's staff in making this happen."The Green Globe Programme ensures that we implement and maintain a rigorous process framework, dovetailing with our master strategy of continuous growth and improvement, whilst ensuring our commitment to the environment and sustainability," he remarked.In order to reduce its carbon emissions, the hotel has installed tighter air conditioning controls and energy-efficient lights that switch themselves off when people have left a room. The organisation also sources its goods locally and is involved in fair trade initiatives.To add to this, the company has set up the Jumeirah Foundation, which supports a range of community welfare and educational campaigns.With new projects springing up all the time, energy-efficient building is extremely important in the UAE - and Dubai in particular.Construction firms are now having to demonstrate that their developments are as eco-friendly as possible and numerous "green structures" are now being erected.This includes the city's first highly sustainable mosque, which will be finished in March 2014.
