Foreign jobseekers are flocking to Dubai

People from all over the world are flocking to Dubai in search of employment, it has been claimed.Commercial manager of recruitment firm BAC Middle East Cliff Single told the Khaleej Times that Dubai's jobs market is in good shape when compared to a lot of other countries across the globe. The economic downturn has forced many skilled workers to look overseas for the best-paid roles and the wages offered by UAE-based firms are still very attractive - particularly to job hunters from Europe. This is despite the fact that things have calmed down a great deal since 2007, when organisations in the Gulf were offering astronomical remuneration packages."Dubai is very much an international market now ... it's often viewed as somewhere like Shanghai, London or New York," Mr Single was quoted as saying."Even though Dubai may not be seeing big salary increases, it still is comparing reasonably well to other parts of the world facing economic challenges."BAC Middle East has reported particularly strong interest from workers in Greece and Portugal. Both countries have been suffering from high-profile financial problems in the past year or so and they are not the only eurozone nations to be having an extremely tough time of things.Vice president of sales at job site Bayt.com Suhail Masri told the news provider that the Gulf Co-operation Council is an increasingly attractive place for people to live and studies have shown that Dubai and Abu Dhabi are the most favourable destinations in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.A January Job Index survey also showed that 67 per cent of MENA-based companies plan to hire new workers in 2013, which is obviously great news for expatriate jobseekers. The influx of foreigners will obviously swell Dubai's population, but the government's ambitious expansion plans will ensure that the city's infrastructure is fit for purpose. As well as major extensions of the emirate's main airport, plans are in place to significantly increase the capacity of Dubai's Metro network, which will enable workers to gain easy access to all of the city's main business and residential districts.
