Sergio Garcia has high hopes for Dubai Desert Classic

Golfing legend Sergio Garcia has announced his intent to take top honours at this year's Omega Dubai Desert Classic. The emirate is currently playing host to the international showpiece, which kicked off on Monday (January 28th) and will be running through to Sunday when this year's champion will be crowned.Former world number two and current world number 14 Garcia hopes to bring himself back into golf's top ten with victory in the tournament this week.Garcia commented: "I'm excited because I know how I'm feeling. I know how my attitude is on the course. I know how my will is to try to do things to get better.''Having plunged as low as 85 in the rankings since his career high of 2009, the golf pro now has his sights firmly set on getting back to his best. The recent run of good form that has seen Garcia rise in the sport once more has been put down to improvements in his short game, while laser eye surgery to repair an astigmatism which took place last year has also helped the pro to read the greens more effectively, he stated.Whatever the reason, the Spaniard is now showing glimpses of the player who terrorised his opponents in the past and after securing runner-up in the Qatar Masters - one shot behind champion Chris Wood - he now has his sights on victory in Dubai.Meanwhile, rival for this year's Omega Dubai Desert Classic Lee Westwood is also in fine fettle at present. He noted: "Hopefully this week I'll play as well as I've played the last few years and have a chance again and hopefully finish it off."Westwood has been involved in a number of close ties in the past, having finished in the top ten on seven occasions and been runner-up three times - 1999, 2010 and 2012. He now hopes to go one better and take his first Desert Classic title in 2013.
