Ladani is the brainchild of Reverend Father Neville Coonghe, who opened the first orphanage in Katuneriya in October 1985. Today the organisation has grown to include six homes that provide shelter to more than 250 children. Ladani’s mission is “to empower children who are orphaned and destitute with love and wisdom, knowledge and stability, and self-respect and self-reliance.” As well as providing food, shelter and clothing, Ladani has a number of ongoing aid projects, including scholarships to help young people continue education, as well as financing small business start-ups. The First Group proudly supports Ladani and its work throughout Sri Lanka and recently donated to one of its orphanages, the Ladani Haldanduwana home.
“Thousands of Sri Lankan children are orphans as a result of the 2004 Tsunami and 26 years of civil war. Organisations like Ladani are making such a difference in the lives of these young people, and their efforts really touched a chord with us.”
Daniel Lubert, Joint Chairman and Co-founder of The First Group
