Plans for Jumeirah Central tourism destination revealed

Jumeirah Central

Dubai’s ruler, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, has revealed plans to build a brand new tourism destination – Jumeirah Central - in the heart of the city.

The new destination will boast 9 million square feet of retail space including three malls and 4.5 million square feet of outdoor shopping space supported by more than 44,000 car parking spaces, said Sheikh Mohammed, who is also Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE.

Jumeirah Central will also offer 7,200 hotel rooms, representing the largest number of hotel rooms to be located in one single district of Dubai, according to news agency WAM.

Located along Dubai’s famous thoroughfare, Sheikh Zayed Road, Jumeirah Central has been master planned by an expert team representing more than 19 government and private agencies, international experts and consultants under the leadership of Dubai Holding over the last two years.

According to WAM, Jumeirah Central will feature one million square feet of climate-controlled arcades and will be connected by a comprehensive cycling network that spans more than 33 parks and open spaces.

“As our vision for future cities evolves, Dubai will continue to set the benchmark for city development across the globe. Jumeirah Central is a clear milestone in our journey towards building the city of the future and the creation of engaged and happy communities,” said Sheikh Mohammed.

"We will not stop investing in our economy, and these projects are tools to expedite that journey of growth. We are confident in the strength of our economy and are optimistic for the future of our nation. To that end, our vision will continuously evolve and expand."
