The annual International Kite Festival Dubai is set to take place again this year and could prove a treat for anyone planning a visit to the emirate this week.It is being held at Dubai Outlet Mall and will see some of Asia's biggest and most elaborate kite designs taking to the skies.Tamquest Entertainment has organised this year's activities, with more than 10,000 people expected to head along to what will be an explosion of colour and fun for all."This is a hugely popular hobby in the subcontinent and it's the kind of thing anyone can get into," commented organiser Uttam Kumar. "I can promise people an amazing display of some stunning kite designs."He added that other attractions will also be available for visitors, including a live DJ and also drumming workshops and seminars on how to design, build and fly the many spectacular kites that will be taking part in the display.Last year's event was a resounding success, with members of the public treated to a jaw-dropping display of 30 mammoth kites being operated by teams of kite enthusiasts from across the globe.The festival comes at a positive time for tourism in Dubai, with more and more people choosing to visit the emirate each year.Plans for the expansion of Dubai International Airport have now been given the all clear, with Terminal 1 of the facility to undergo a major renovation and expansion during the first quarter of the new year.With a current capacity of around 20 million, plans are now in place to boost this figure to closer to 90 million by 2018, while revamped check-in, arrival and departure areas are all on the cards. In addition, the airport's management are keen to upgrade and modernise public spaces in the facility, as well as introducing a greater range of retailers and amenities.
