Dubai International Airport’s passenger numbers hit more than five million in July – the highest ever recorded during one month in the terminal’s history. The previous monthly traffic record, clocked up in Jaunary 2012, was 4.85 million. Despite the summer being traditionally a quieter period for tourism, passenger traffic grew by 6% during July – equating to a record 112 passengers handled during every minute of the month. To date this year, the airport’s traffic totals nearly 33 million – up 12.4% compared to the same period last year.
Overall Dubai International’s monthly total this year has soared to almost 5 million compared to around 3.5 million per month in 2009. The figures are a clear sign of the terminal’s position as a thriving global hub, and Dubai’s standing as a hugely popular tourism destination. The numbers also put Dubai International on course towards reaching a record breaking 50 million passengers by the end of the year.
