This year’s Dubai Summer Surprises is in full swing, with organisers predicting 2012’s edition will be the biggest to date. Since its launch 15 years ago spending has increased tenfold, weighing in at 8.8 billion dirhams last year, with 5.9 billion dirhams of that total spent by international and regional visitors. Based on trends over the last 15 years, organisers say they are confident spending will increase by at least 10% this year.
Visitor numbers have also grown from an inaugural 600,000 to 4 million in 2011 – of which nearly 900,000 were regional and international. This year, officials anticipate 1.5 million tourists will visit Dubai during June and July, with hotels in the emirate poised to count the profits. DSS 2012 began on 14th June and runs through to 15th July.
