Dubai is attracting a different kind of tourist this summer, according to recent reports. Students from around the world are flocking to the emirate to further their education, particularly in the field of Arabic language and culture, with places like the Eton Institute at Knowledge Village near Media City offering 2-3 week long courses over the summer period.
“Dubai is the perfect mix of the modern and the traditional. Staying here has allowed me access into regional cultural artefacts, from Syrian art to Omani folklore, without having to travel to these places,” Jannike Thiesen, a 22-year-old Art History student from Norway, told Dubai’s Khaleej Times. Dubai is also proving a good stopover for regional students from the likes of Saudi Arabia who are looking to brush up on their English skills this summer. According to reports, more than 150 students have enrolled in English language classes at various institutions across the city.
