Abu Dhabi is set to see the emergence of a semiconductor industry, it has been reported. The emirate's Advanced Technology Investment Company (ATIC), which is a subsidiary of Mubadala, is pushing the development of the industry in Abu Dhabi, Zawya reported.ATIC currently owns 87 per cent of Global Foundries and 20 per cent of chip designer AMD.Sami Eisa, executive director of the Abu Dhabi Ecosystem Development unit of ATIC, said that AMD is just weeks away from launching its 'fusion' accelerated processing unit."They’re fusing two different processors together on the same piece of silicon,” the expert said."This means creating a super computing power with better performance, better features and a longer battery life."Rick Berbman, senior vice-president and general manager of AMD, added: "We can’t just stick with the same computer architecture that we’ve had for 20 or 30 years."We have to shift over to something new — something that anticipates the different work flows that we’re asking our processors to do."
