Dubai could set the stage for the sequel of Bollywood blockbuster movie ‘Krrish.’ Reports say officials from Dubai Studio City and Dubai Media City, located opposite Tecom, are in talks with Bollywood directors and producers. The first installment of the movie, released in 2006, sets out how the lead character Krishna inherits "superpowers" from his father, and the sequel is rumoured to star the Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan. The production of Krrish 2 would be a huge boost to the emirate’s growing movie industry.
Dubai Media City, situated directly opposite The First Group’s Metro Central Hotel Apartments in Tecom, continues to provide the base for TV and film production in the UAE. Managing Director of DMC and Studio City, Jamal Al Sharif is in charge of requests to shoot in the emirate, and says demand has risen over the last year, with more than 100 requests recorded – the highest since 2008.
Dubai’s blossoming production industry is estimated to have given a $54.4 million boost to the UAE’s economy last year. This figure includes the total budget of all film and TV productions made in the emirate. The fourth instalment of Mission Impossible, starring Tom Cruise, was one of the highlights, while the James Bond franchise has also chosen Dubai as a location for its next movie.
