Dubai is proving the top choice for UK visitors looking to escape the cold or wet weather! According to recently released figures from the Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM), the UK ranks as the number one source market for Dubai tourism. Nearly 720,000 UK visitors flocked to the emirate last year, with those numbers up by 9% in the last three months of 2010, thanks to a wave of winter hotel offers.
“We continually strive to be the most proactive and supportive tourist board in the UK, and this momentum gives us every reason to be confident about 2011, a year which is already delivering year on year growth in visitor numbers,” commented Ian Scott, UK and Ireland director for the DTCM.
Overall, 8.3 million international tourists visited Dubai in 2010, a rise of 9.4% on 2009. Tourism revenue was also up by 6.5% last year, generating an impressive 13 billion dirhams. The release of 33 new hotels and hotel apartments has helped to drive this growth, with a total of 573 registered accommodation units and 71,000 rooms now on the market. Soon to add to that list is The First Group’s prestigious hotel apartment project in Tecom in the New Dubai area. First Central is due to open for business in July – watch this space for more updates!
