Khalifa port due for late 2012 opening
Abu Dhabi Ports Company (ADPC) has announced that phase one of its new Khalifa Port will be open for business in late 2012.

The firm has signed a letter of intent to award the port operations to Abu Dhabi Terminals (ADT) in time for the fourth quarter of next year.

Tony Douglas, chief executive officer of ADPC said: "This news signals the latest stage of our plans for Khalifa Port which is well on target for completion late next year.

"Construction is 68 per cent complete and the announcement of intent to appoint ADT so well in advance of the opening will help in the development of strategy and business planning for the benefit of future customers."

Khalifa Port is located in Taweelah, which is seen as a half-way point between Abu Dhabi and Dubai, and is intended to provide port services for the Khalifa Industrial Zone Abu Dhabi when it also opens.
