A special award has been given to the Elderly Care section of the RAK Medical District in honour of a "pioneering home care programme" for the emirate's elderly.
It was reported that 50 per cent of the elderly people who were receiving aged care at the district's hospitals have moved to their own homes where their families are now providing for them with the support of the Elderly Care section of the department.
"We have found that families can take care of the elderly once they have the right kind of support and the skills which were provided by our team," said Dr Yasser Issa Al Nuaimi, director of the Ras Al Khaimah Medical District.
The award was presented during the district's annual day event, which was held this week at the Hotel Hilton Ras Al Khaimah.
Speaking at the function, Dr Salem Al Darmaki, director-general of the UAE Ministry of Health, stated that the government had been successfully implementing the modernisation and upgrading of the country's medical services to provide advanced medical care to the people.
