Dubai promotes 'sports tourism' with AC Milan tour

The Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) has hailed the success of a recent tour to the emirate by major Italian football side AC Milan.

DTCM recently lent its support to the Emirates Challenge Cup exhibition match played between Al Ahli and AC Milan in Dubai.

More than 7,800 football fans attended the match which was won by AC Milan, thus ending the club's week-long winter training camp in the emirate.

"Part of DTCM's long-term growth strategy is to promote sports tourism within the emirate, and attracting sport-related events, congresses, tournaments and exhibitions is key to this sport tourism strategy," said the department.

Hamad M Bin Mejren, DTCM's executive director of business tourism, added that such sporting events contributed to promoting Dubai "in key source markets globally".

The comments come after it was revealed last month that the total number of hotel guests in Dubai between January and September 2010 reached nearly six million, a six per cent increase on the number recorded during the corresponding period in 2009.ADNFCR-2019-ID-800324090-ADNFCR
