Dubai’s tourist industry shows no signs of slowing, with figures from Dubai International Airport revealing passenger numbers grew by 7.8% this year. In the first 11 months of 2011 numbers rose to 46.28 million, just under 4 million short of a record 50 million. In November alone, visitor traffic surged by 8.9% to nearly 4.5 million, compared to just over 4 million in the same month in 2010.
"Considering that we have had an average monthly traffic of 4.2 million passengers in the first 11 months of 2011, we are well on track to surpass the historical figure of 50 million in annual traffic this year,” Jamal Al Hai, Dubai Airports executive senior vice president for International Affairs and Communications told Dubai’s Gulf News. The latest figures reaffirm Dubai International Airport’s standing as one of the five busiest travel hubs in the world.
