Hotels in Dubai are preparing for a substantial influx of visitors as the city gets ready for Gitex Technology week. According to top officials from both the hotel and exhibition sectors, hotel occupancy rates significantly rise during events such as the global technology conference, which last year attracted more than 136,000 people. This year’s Gitex runs from 9-13th October at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre
The wide range and availability of international hotels in Dubai is one of the main reasons the city is chosen as the venue for Gitex and other events such as Arab Health and Gulfood. Executives have also confirmed that many hotels in Dubai operate at full capacity during these major trade fairs and international conferences, with most witnessing occupancy levels surpassing 95% and in some cases reaching 100%.
Hotel occupancies in Dubai during Q1 of 2011 reached 2.38 million compared to 2.09 million in the first three months of last year, according to figures released by the Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM). During the first quarter of this year, hotels also experienced a boost in revenue of Dhs4.3bn, in comparison to the Dhs3.7bn in the same period last year.
Hotel establishments reached 573 in 2010, compared with 540 in 2009, raising the total number of rooms and hotel apartments to 71,046. Watch this space for updates on The First Group’s three Tecom hotel apartments, Metro Central, Grand Central and First Central, due to launch very soon!
