As the start of 2011 draws near, Dubai’s hotel industry can certainly look back on what has been a highly positive year. According to figures from the Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM), hotels in the emirate registered 5,991,660 guests in the first nine months of 2010. This 6% increase on 2009 served to push the city’s hotel revenue up to an impressive AED9.2 billion.
A recent Deloitte report also showed Dubai’s hotel occupancy rose by 2.9% in the first 10 months of 2010. This was buoyed by the huge increase in passenger traffic at Dubai International Airport, which grew by 15.6% in the first 11 months of this year. DTCM has also launched an international campaign to promote the "Definitely Dubai" initiative, which aims to market the Emirate's tourist attractions worldwide.
The surge in statistics spells good news for Dubai’s hotel industry and indeed investors in this thriving sector. The First Group has already completed one hotel property within its portfolio - The Diamond Hotel Apartments in Dubai Sports City. It looks forward to adding to this with the opening of Metro Central and Grand Central Hotel Apartments in the Tecom business district.
