French Hotel Group Accor is looking at Dubai as the place to expand its luxury portfolio. The largely midscale, budget hotel name currently has just two high-end offerings in the Dubai hotel market, under the brands Sofitel and Pullman. Currently there is only one Sofitel property in the UAE, based at Dubai’s Jumeirah Beach Residence.
According to reports, Accor now plans to open up two more Sofitels in the emirate - the Sofitel Dubai Palm Jumeirah Resort & Spa in December 2012; and the Sofitel Dubai Shaikh Zayed Road, in early 2013. In the upscale segment, the group plans to open a second Pullman in Dubai’s Jumeirah Lake Towers area in the second quarter of 2012, to add to the existing Pullman, based at the Mall of the Emirates. Accor’s announcement comes fresh off the back of news that Hilton is also planning to boost its hotel portfolio in Dubai, and provides yet more proof of the continued growth of the emirate’s hotel industry.
