Air traffic in the UAE increased by 8.7 per cent in August 2010 compared to the same month last year, new figures show.
According to data from the UAE General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), there were 53,525 air traffic movements last month, with Dubai ranking first with 24,127 movements, Gulf News reported.
Saif Mohammad Al Suwaidi, GCAA director-general, commented: "Daily air traffic movements in the UAE remained high in spite of the fact that the holiday season this year coincided with Ramadan."
The authority's report also showed that it prepared 187 airport control tower reports last month and held 35 internal and external meetings in relation to security and infrastructure operations with several institutions and companies operating in the UAE's civil aviation sector.
Meanwhile, it was reported last week that MSC Cruises is considering plans to operate out of Dubai by the end of next year.
Speaking to ttglive.com, an MSC spokesperson confirmed that Dubai was an area the line was interested in.
