About 20 per cent of UAE residents take five or more holidays outside the country each year, new research shows.

A travel survey commissioned by Visa also showed that the average UAE resident takes one to two leisure trips a year.

In terms of the frequency of holidays taken, almost 50 per cent of UAE respondents claimed that there was no change in their travel habits in the past 18 months, despite the global economic downturn.

Indeed, almost a quarter stated that their holidays had actually increased during the period.

"It is clear from the survey that leisure travel is something that UAE residents are not willing to compromise on, even in light of the recent economic downturn," commented Maysara Ghadban Traboulsi, Visa's head of marketing communications for MENA.

Meanwhile, it was recently reported that properties located close to Dubai Metro stations have witnessed a sharp increase in consumer traffic since the transit system opened a year ago.
