The upcoming Dubai Super Sixes corporate cricket league has had a "phenomenal" response from UAE teams keen to participate, its organiser has said.
Arshad Zaheer, managing director of Crayons Communications, the company behind the event, told Gulf News it had received requests to participate from teams not only from Dubai but also from Abu Dhabi and Sharjah.
The league, which is scheduled to be held from September 29th at the Dubai Sports City international cricket stadium, is modeled on the lines of the famous Hong Kong Sixes.
Each team is made up of six players with five neutral fielders provided by the organisers. Each side bowls only five overs, with the matches lasting about 70 minutes and taking place from 5pm to 11pm.
Mr Zaheer confirmed that the organisers will provide one international cricketer for the teams that reach the quarter-finals. Former Pakistan captain Wasim Akram is among those to have confirmed his participation.
A total of 48 corporate teams can participate in the event, with participation details available at dubasupersixes.com.
