Great news for investors in Dubai’s hotel industry! The number of visitors to the emirate’s hotels was up by 9% in the first half of 2010, according to the latest figures from the Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM). Guest numbers reached 4,181,326 – up from 3,852,742 for the same period last year. Khalid Ahmed Bin Sulayem, Director General of DTCM, said that despite the impact of the economic crisis on the global tourism industry in 2009, Dubai was still able to achieve impressive results in terms of tourist arrivals, hotel revenues and tourism related events.
The DTCM statistics also show that the number of hotels operating in Dubai has reached 566; marking a 7% increase from last year. The number of hotel rooms has now topped 67,369 – up by 16% from last year, with average occupancy rates remaining over 71%. The boom in guests has also served to boost hotel profits, with revenues up by 6% in the first half of the year to a total of Dhs6,888,477. The report comes as continued proof of the city’s strong hotel industry. It is also highly positive news for investors in The First Group’s first hotel outings; Metro Central and Grand Central Hotel Apartments. Watch this space for more updates!
