British Broadcaster ITN is said to be exploring the possibility of linking up with Middle East TV operators, following the launch of ITV’s Dubai operations. ITV - one of ITN’s television news brands - set up a news bureau in Dubai Media City (DMC) earlier this month. The two-man bureau will cater for the strong demand for news about the UAE back in Britain, as well as serve as a base for ITV’s coverage of Afghanistan, East Africa, India and Pakistan.
If ITN does decide to join ITV in launching Middle East operations in Dubai, it will be the latest international TV news organization to choose to set up a presence in the UAE. Reuters, CNBC and Sky News and many others all have a base at DMC. This Free Trade Zone has become a global hub for the media industry in the UAE and GCC, with over 1,300 media related companies now registered. Strategically located in ‘New Dubai’, DMC is also one of the business zones served by the TECOM district, located directly across the Sheikh Zayed Road from DMC. The fast growing commercial and residential zone of TECOM is also home to The First Group’s premier hotel apartment projects, Metro Central and Grand Central.
