Ras Al Khaimah has overseen the Sixth Arab Chemistry Olympiad, thereby becoming the first emirate in the UAE to host the competition.
It proved to be a spur for the country as the four-member UAE national team went on to take first place, Gulf News reported.
At an awards ceremony last night (August 4th), Shaikh Saud Bin Saqr Al Qasimi, the crown prince and deputy ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, honoured the winners and urged them to pursue academic excellence.
"The impressive win by the UAE team reflects the efficacy of the strategy adopted by the UAE leadership to provide the young generation with access to quality education and thereby build human capital equipped to face the challenges of the future," he said.
Four out of the five gold medals on offer went to the UAE students, with the remaining one going to a Palestinian student.
During the three-day event, participants were required to show their skills in the laboratory while also completing theory tests.
