The prime minister of the UAE and ruler of Dubai has met with the heads of various charitable and humanitarian organisations across the region for a special Ramadan event.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, who received the representatives at an evening event at Zabeel Palace, praised the bodies' performance across the UAE and offered government backing to their humanitarian efforts, WAM News Agency reported.
"You have the backing of our armed forces who move swiftly on getting orders of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan to provide humanitarian relief to the peoples suffering natural disasters and conflict, regardless of their creed, religion or colour of skin," he said.
Sheikh Mohammed also called for a strengthening of coordination among the country's charitable and humanitarian organisations and the Foreign Aid Coordination Office, the newswire said.
He observed that the size of the foreign aid provided by the UAE during 2009 reached over AED 9 billion.
