Ras Al Khaimah-based RAK Ceramics has been ranked number one in the world by the international specialist magazine Ceramic World Review after recording the highest global production among the largest ceramic tile manufacturers in 2009 with a total production output of 115 million square metres.
The ranking shows RAK Ceramics' rapid growth in recent years after the company came fourth in Ceramic World Review's 2008 list with a production output of 106 million square metres, Construction Week Online reported.
RAK Ceramics is now planing to further increase its current production capacity of 117 million square metres from 15 manufacturing facilities located in six countries, the news provider said.
Khater Massaad, the company's chief executive officer, commented: "These distinctions from the Ceramic World Review validate the success of our strategy to target and strengthen our presence in high-growth markets around the world.
"In this regard, we remain strongly committed to pursue aggressive expansion programs in new international markets and maintain our status as the undisputed global leader in the ceramic tile industry."
As Construction Week Online observed, RAK Ceramics last month won a contract to supply 100,000 square metres of tiles for the tunnels, bathroom walls and floors at Dubai International Airport as part of an expansion project at the site.
