Dubai is becoming an increasingly popular destination among tourists from the Far East, it has been observed.

According to the Chinese Xinhua News Agency, "Asian guests are flocking into the relatively liberal sheikhdom in the Gulf region, replacing tourists from traditional travel hungry spots in Europe".

The news agency also noted that last year, Dubai saw the number of guests from China staying in its hotels increase to 107,488 from 96,328 in 2008.

It added that the UAE's decision to ease visa restrictions for Chinese travellers in the autumn had also boosted tourist numbers.

Meanwhile, Xinhua commended Dubai for its various tourist-friendly initiatives including Summer Surprises, which began on June 17th and runs until August 7th, offering thousands of price discounts in the emirate's shopping malls as well as shows and music festivities for local residents and visitors.

Earlier this week, Artaaj, an events, promotions and marketing consultancy, claimed that the UAE remains a "hotspot" for luxury retail trade.ADNFCR-2019-ID-19904078-ADNFCR
