Tourism officials in Dubai have pointed to the growing number of visitors travelling to the emirate via major cruise liners.
According to new figures released by the Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM), ship cruises brought in 26,580 tourists to Dubai from April 6th to June 14th, 2010, WAM News Agency reported.
The research also showed that the Dubai Cruise Terminal at Port Rashid serviced 17 ships of various global cruise companies during the period.
Those that contributed significantly to the increase in cruise trips included the Brilliance of the Seas with 4,287 passengers during the three months, AIDA Diva with 2,438 and Costa Luminosa with 2,175.
DTCM also announced that it expects to host a total of 120 ships and over 325,000 passengers for the whole of 2010.
Earlier this week, it was revealed that Dubai has seen its hotel occupancy rates rise strongly this year, with the average rate now around 80 per cent.
