The Abu Dhabi Education Council (ADEC) has unveiled its Higher Education Strategic Plan as it looks to ensure economic diversification and the establishment of a knowledge-based economy in the emirate.
Among the plan's priorities are raising the quality of Abu Dhabi's higher education standards to an international level, aligning higher education with the labour requirements of the emirate and building and maintaining a strong research system, Arab News reported.
"This plan is on the basis of Abu Dhabi 2030 Vision to have a knowledge-based economy," said Mugheer Khamis Al Khaili, ADEC director-general.
"It also aims to limit the number of people seeking jobs in Abu Dhabi by ensuring that graduates can contribute directly to the economy," he added.
The plan was devised over a six-month period by a taskforce comprising representatives of renowned educational and government institutions.
Meanwhile, it was also reported this week that Abu Dhabi's department of municipal affairs has hosted a special conference aimed at advancing the strategic plans of various nearby municipal systems.
