Abu Dhabi received 14 per cent more guests across its 116 licensed hotels and hotel apartments in May 2010 compared to the same month last year, new figures show.
According to Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority (ADTA) data, the May 2010 hotel guest performance took the overall total for the first five months of this year to 790,812 - a 16 per cent increase on the same period in 2009.
"We are well on course to achieve our 2010 target of 1.65 million hotel guests," confirmed His Excellency Mubarak Al Muhairi, director-general of ADTA.
"We are now focussed on keeping the momentum going. We have significantly expanded our Summer in Abu Dhabi family festival to take in Abu Dhabi city and, for the first time, Al Ain to help keep the momentum going and the industry has responded well with a wealth of one-for-one visitor stay incentives."
The figures also showed that the UK was again Abu Dhabi's biggest individual international market, growing by 12 per cent month-on-month to 10,031 in May 2010.
Meanwhile, it was reported last week that tourism in Dubai has been boosted by the growing number of visitors travelling to the emirate via major cruise liners.
