China's growing interest in trading with the Gulf Cooperation Council has been demonstrated at a recent conference.
Oliver Cornock, Oxford Business Group's regional editor for the Gulf and chair of a number of panel sessions at Institutional Investor's recent Abu Dhabi and China Economic Forum, claimed that the high profile nature of the delegates from both sides "showed that there is significant will to explore and grow the already not insignificant relationship much further".
Speakers at the forum pointed out that while the Abu Dhabi-China relationship may have been built primarily on energy, the reality is now much broader.
"Indeed, much of the emphasis throughout the day was on the opportunities Abu Dhabi's significant infrastructure development projects presented for Chinese contractors who have traditionally been very competitive in winning government tenders in the region," commented Oxford Business Group.
Last week, Abu Dhabi's department of municipal affairs hosted a special conference aimed at advancing the strategic plans of various nearby municipal systems.
