The Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority (ADTA) has said that Summer in Abu Dhabi - the six-week, family-centric festival which is now in its third year – has been significantly expanded for 2010 with a view to boosting tourism in the emirate.
According to ADTA, the festival, which runs from June 24th- August 5th, 2010, will take in eight venues across the UAE capital and Al Ain - the first time Summer in Abu Dhabi has reached out to the emirate's Eastern Region heritage heartland.
Headlining the festival will be three major international acts including New York's award-winning Big Apple Circus, which will be making its first appearance in the Middle East.
"Summer in Abu Dhabi this year will be the biggest summer event to hit Abu Dhabi yet and is a strong pitch to families within the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) to come and spend time in the emirate where they'll be guaranteed fantastic value and entertainment," said Faisal Al Sheikh, events manager at ADTA.
The GCC is a primary source market for Abu Dhabi's tourism sector, with the first quarter of this year seeing 26,685 GCC nationals staying in hotels throughout the emirate - a 29 per cent rise on the same period last year.
This made the GCC the second biggest overseas market for Abu Dhabi after the UK.
