Emirates is planning to increase the number of routes it offers in the MENA region (Middle East and North Africa), a senior executive has said.
Richard Vaughan, Emirates' divisional senior vice-president, told Emirates Business 24/7 that the airline is exploring routes to destinations that are within eight hours of Dubai.
Mr Vaughan added that some of the new routes could become operational this year, and suggested Emirates was expecting positive financial results when they are announced next week.
According to the news provider, the company's revenue stood at $12.6 billion in 2008-2009 against $11.4 billion in 2007-2008.
The news comes as the luxury hotelier Hilton announced that its new Doubletree brand will make its debut in the MENA region in the fourth quarter of this year.
Hilton confirmed it will open 21 new properties across MENA by 2014, four of which will be located in the UAE.
