Dubai Metro will open seven more stations and launch new trains this month as it looks to boost the speed and efficiency of its network.

It is thought the expansion will considerably reduce travel times for passengers, with the maximum waiting time at a station expected to fall from ten to six minutes during peak hours, Gulf News reported.

Once the new stations are opened on April 25th, around ten to 12 trains will run per hour in each direction with an intake of around 7,700 passengers.

Meanwhile, Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority has said it may extend the normal operating time up from 11 pm to midnight .

The seven new stations include Emirates, Airport Terminal 1, GGICO, Al Karama, World Trade Centre, Marina and Ibn Battuta.

Since launching in September last year, the Metro has proven to be extremely popular with Dubai's residents, and has already transported more than 12 million passengers according to figures compiled at the end of March.
