One of the new stations to be built on the Dubai Metro will be named after Dubai Internet City (DIC), it has been revealed.

The announcement was made in recognition of DIC's contribution to Dubai's knowledge economy and its success as one of the world's largest technology free zones.

Located between the Sharaf DG and Nakeel Metro stations, the DIC station will have a minimum of five retail outlets and more facilities and services than most other Metro stations.

Feeder bus services will operate from the station to the DIC site as well as to other destinations in the area such as Marina, Dubai Media City and Dubai Knowledge Village.

Abdnan Al Hamadi, acting chief executive officer of Dubai's rail agency, said: "We are confident the DIC Metro Station would help professionals and business visitors to rapidly reach their destinations throughout the day."

In other news, it was reported this week that Dubai's Department of Economic Development (DED) has led an initiative to develop the first carbon neutral warehouse in the Middle East.
