Dubai Airports recorded a 21.8 per cent rise in passenger traffic last month, it has been revealed.

New figures point to more than 3.9 million travellers for the month, compared with the 3.2 million recorded in March 2009, Emirates Business 24/7 reported.

Dubai International Airport itself also saw passenger traffic grow by 20.4 per cent, while cargo volumes went up by 26.4 per cent at the site.

Paul Griffiths, chief executive officer of Dubai Airports said: "The pace of the growth we're seeing is frenetic thanks to capacity increases, gradually improving economic conditions and rising consumer confidence."

Such capacity increases have included more flights and routes by Emirates, flydubai and other international airlines operating out of Dubai.

Last week, it was reported that Dubai's Airport Show – which was held from April 25th to 27th – had planned for a 17 per cent increase in the number of countries participating in its core areas of airport construction, operations, technology and services.
