The UAE will generate more travel and tourism jobs over the coming decade than any other country, a new report has suggested.
A study by the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) predicted that the UAE will generate 5.7 per cent annual growth in travel and tourism employment between 2010 and 2020, Emirates Business 24/7 reported. This would amount to the fastest growth rate in the world.
According to the WTTC, travel and tourism employment will surge from 429,000 jobs in 2010 to 745,000 jobs in 2020 - or one in every 5.5 jobs.
In addition, the report predicted that the contribution of travel and tourism to the UAE's gross domestic product will rise from 16.6 per cent (US $42.56bn) at present to 21.7 per cent (US $139.93bn) by 2020.
The WTTC also expects the UAE to earn $22.2 billion in visitor spending this year - the tenth largest amount to be earned by any country in the world this year, according to the body.
It was recently reported that last month both Dubai International Airport and Abu Dhabi International Airport saw double-digit growth in passenger traffic compared to the same month last year.
