Ras Al Khaimah Free Trade Zone (RAK FTZ) is seeking to protect the surrounding desert environment with a new campaign.
During a recent press conference, RAK FTZ announced its involvement as one of the major sponsors in the Desert Environment Protection Campaign 2010, Free Spirit, the trade zone's newsletter reported.
The campaign, which has been organised in partnership with RAK's Hobbies Club and the ministry of environment and water, aims to encourage the nation's youth to spend their holidays and leisure time responsibly enjoying the region's beautiful natural environments.
This includes educating young campers on the importance of adopting sustainable practices with regard to the desert environment.
"We have pristine deserts in the UAE, and we would like both locals and expatriates to enjoy them. Ensuring that they are duly-informed that they are responsible for leaving the bit of land they use as clean and as pristine as when they came is the number one objective," said Oussama El Omari, RAK FTZ chief executive officer.
Last week, TTG Live reported that Dubai's tourism department had launched a new Kids Go Free campaign aimed at driving forward arrival figures in the emirate between May and September.
