Dubai's population has exceeded the 1.8 million-mark in the first quarter of this year following rapid growth of 7.5 per cent during the last 12 months.
New figures from Dubai Statistics Centre reveal that the emirate's population now stands at more than 1,801,000 residents - up from 1,676,000 at the end of the first quarter of 2009, Emirates Business 24/7 reported.
In addition, the data shows that the population has gone up by more than 30,300 residents, or 1.7 per cent, since the end of last year when the population stood at 1.77 million.
The news provider noted that the increasing affordability and availability of residential accommodation in Dubai has allowed the population to continue to grow.
It added that during an average working day, the active population in the emirate swells by a further 50 per cent as tourists and employees travel into Dubai.
Last month, both Dubai International Airport and Abu Dhabi International Airport saw double-digit growth in passenger traffic compared to the same month last year.
