A majority of firms in the UAE are planning to increase staff levels in 2011, new research shows.
Mercer's 2010 total remuneration survey of 140 firms in the UAE found that two-thirds are planning to raise headcount next year.
Meanwhile, there were no companies that said they were planning to cut numbers.
"This is a big shift in mood and in planning and we expect this optimism to deepen as the New Year comes around," said Bassam Gazal, who heads Mercer's survey practice across the Gulf.
The prospect of salary increases across the UAE in 2011 also appeared strong as the average increase forecast was put at around 6.2 per cent, up from 5.2 per cent for 2010, while no firm reported they were considering a freeze.
In addition, it was reported that there has been a strong shift in Abu Dhabi and Dubai around the payment of variable bonuses to employees based not just on individual performance but on corporate performance as well.
